Herbs
All of the plants in the images above are for sale - See the Plants for Sale page for more info
Herbs can be either annuals, biennials, or perennials.
I do have this HEIRLOOM plant that is an annual, reseeds, called PERILLA, a beautiful green-purple color with ruffle leaves. It's other name is Shiso or Perilla Purple, popular in Asia, the flavor is a cross between basil and mint, makes beautiful pink rice, great in salad and to flavor vinegar.
Most common herbs are chives, mint, parsley, oregano, thyme, rosemary, and basil.
Oregano is a perennial and can reseed itself every where as can chives. It likes it best in the ground.
Mint is a perennial and comes in many different flavors--peppermint, pineapple, chocolate, to name a few. It can travel underground and can be evasive but is a wonderful herb to cook with and keep ants away from you inside house if you plant it by the back door.
Basil can be grown on a windowsill as can parsley, chives, thyme, basil, and rosemary.
Herbs can be grown inside, but they live it best outside in the ground. Yes, Rosemary is very difficult sometimes, especially when you are trying to winter it over in the house--baking soda and water spray helps keep the fungus at bay.
There are many different varieties of herbs.
I will have perennial herbs such as oregano, garlic chives, thyme, angelica, mint, and more available at my annual plant sale in May--see purchasing plants tab above and our club schedule page for more info.
Did you know that most perennials and a lot of annuals are really herbs?
